Finance Minister Koiji Omi in Washington for Economic Meetings

Today may be a national holiday in Japan (Coming of Age Day), but there’s no rest for Finance Minister Koji Omi, as he is in Washington for a round of meetings with US economic officials. Of high importance on that list will be Omi’s meeting with US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. Omi is expected to express his belief that Japan’s economy will continue to grow, and that the corporate recovery will lead to an increase in consumer spending.

Will Paulson grill him on the issue? It will be interesting to see the different releases made to the press by each side. It is, of course, a good sign that Omi is working on a holiday.
