Japan’s January Auto Production: Up!

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association is reporting a 4.2% gain in year-on-year automobile production. Despite lower domestic sales, exports of Japanese automobiles continue to surge, and production along with it. The details:
- 乗用車-774,055台で34,041台・4.6%の増 。
- Passenger cars: 774,055 units, an increase of 34,041 units, up 4.6%
- トラック-117,235台で980台・0.8%の増 。
- Trucks: 117,235 units, an increase of 980 units, up 0.8%
- バス-7,290台で951台・15.0%の増 。
- Buses: 7,290 units, an increase of 951 units, up 15%
Also in January, total vehicle exports rose 15.8% to 490,536 units, showing an increase for the 18th consecutive month, while domestic shipments of vehicles were down 6.0% at 371,335 units.
The export breakdown:
- 乗用車 - 444,189台 - 前年同月比 - 61,833台 - 16.2%増
- Passenger cars: 444,189 units, 61,833 more than last month, up 16.2%
- トラック - 39,194台 - 前年同月比 - 2,739台 - 7.5%増
- Trucks: 39,194 units, 2,739 more than last month, up 7.5%
- バス - 7,153台 - 2,180台 - 43.8%増
- Buses: 7,153 units, 2,180 more than last month, up 43.8%
Motorcycle output fell by 4.2% last month to 143,087 units, showing a decline for the third consecutive month.
Exports of motorcycles in January were down 2.2% at 113,880 units, dropping for the fifth month in a row, while domestic shipments were down 24.7% at 34,406.
