Earlier today, the Ministry of Finance announced that Japan’s foreign reserves had hit 905.05 billion dollars, up from $895 billion a month ago. That figure includes 24,600,000 troy ounces of gold valued at 16.3 billion dollars.

International Monetary Fund reserves and IMF special drawing rights (SDRs) are also included in the total. Japan’s foreign reserves remain the second largest in the world, behind the $1.07 trillion in holdings reported by China at the end of 2006.
