Cabinet Office: Revised Index of Business Conditions for February
April 18, 2007
By Ken Worsley
Earlier today, the Cabinet Office released its revision of April 6’s preliminary Index of Business Conditions. As expected, all three key diffusion indexes remained under the key figure of 50, which means that business outlook appears to be negative from the past, present and future viewpoints.
The leading index, which projects business conditions into the future, was revised downward from 30 to 27.3 points. The coincident index, which measures business conditions in the present, saw an upward revision from 16.7 to 30 points, and the lagging index, which measures the few months leading up to the current period, remained at 0.
The last time that all three indexes were below 50 points in a revised report was in December 2001, just before the most recent economic slump.
