Spider-Man 3 opened here in Japan last night - yes, that’s right, on a Tuesday night. It is Golden Week, but today is not a national holiday (I still have my suit on). At any rate, on opening night in Japan, Spidey brought home 415 million yen, becoming the largest-ever grossing film to open on a Tuesday night.

The film also set records in Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. Oh, and in Taiwan, Spider-Man 3 became the highest grossing film on a single weekday.

As far as cost goes, the Guardian tells us:

Spider-Man 3 certainly needs a good performance as the studio says it cost a phenomenal $258m to make. This already makes it the most expensive film of all time - beating King Kong’s 2005 record of $207m, but some reports have placed that figure closer to the $500m mark.

Up to $500 million? Pfft…that’s still only a quarter of what Roppongi Hills came in at…
