KDDI’s AU Outpacing DoCoMo Again: 3.8 Times More New Subscribers in April

By Ken Worsley
We’ve reported on KDDI’s solid financial success in fiscal 2006 and NTT DoCoMo’s troubles in the same year, and it looks like in 2007 things are set to continue in that vein:
Yesterday, it was reported that in April, KDDI’s AU mobile brand added a net 249,400 new subscribers. DoCoMo? Only 65,800.
April is a big month for Japan’s mobile phone business, as new university students and company freshmen often upgrade their handsets.
Since the number portability system came into effect in October of last year, KDDI/AU has picked up 900,700 new subscribers, DoCoMo has lost 719,200, and Softbank has lost 181,000.
