Japan’s Domestic New Auto Sales Down for 23rd Month in a Row

Make it 23 months in a row: Japan’s domestic automobile sales fell by 8.3% against a year earlier in May, according to data released by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association. In May, 253,640 new cars, trucks and buses were sold in Japan. Toyota’s sales were down 8.5% on year, Honda’s sales declined 2.4% and Nissan fell 8.7%.

The breakdown for monthly sales stats:

  • Cars: Down 7.51% year-on-year to 199,438
  • Trucks: Down 17.4% year-on-year to 35,304
  • Buses: Down 11.4% year-on-year to 898

JADA figures do not include sales of mini-cars or mini-trucks.
