Wii Still Thrashing Sony’s Playstation 3
July 3, 2007
By Ken Worsley
Nintendo Co. Ltd.’s Wii game console outsold Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 by a ratio of over 6 to 1 in June in Japan…Nintendo sold 270,974 units of the Wii in the four weeks ended June 24, compared with 41,628 units for the PS3 and 17,616 units for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360.
Shares in Nintendo closed at 46,650 yen a share today (Can you say overvalued?).
The success behind the Wii story? Quite simply: Innovation and appealing to people who usually wouldn’t buy game consoles. The lesser talked about success at Nintendo is the handheld DS console, which has been selling to consumers of all ages.
Though I’m still holding that 18 months from now, the Playstation 3 will be outselling the Wii.

Got something to say?

At the current sales curve, there won’t be anyone left to sell the Wii to in 18 months. If Sony gets some good games out, the PS3 should move ahead.
Besides, I think in two months the Yankees will be ahead of the Red Sox.
