Hatoyama lays out growth strategy

December 30, 2009
By Ken Worsley

Earlier today, Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama unveiled his economic growth strategy, which is intended to…

…never mind, Hatoyama’s plan is a complete and utter farce, a sick joke with no punchline delivered to a nation of people who need real leadership. Here’s the first paragraph of the Kyodo article:

The government unveiled Wednesday a basic policy for its growth strategy through 2020, aiming to achieve an average economic growth of 3% in nominal terms by boosting demand in the environmental, health and tourism fields and creating a total of 4.76 million jobs in related industries.

The rest of the article is there, but the first paragraph already tells you how stupid, short-sighted and disconnected from reality this government is, and there’s not much need to read the rest. But if you’re in a masochistic mood, here you go: Bumbling fools reveal idiotic policies Gov’t seeks nominal 3% growth through 2020 by demand in key areas.

I don’t disagree with you. I am also really concerned about the budget and the reversals on the post office reform.

I keep seeing Richard Koo’s name popping up here and there. He’s Nomura’s chief strategist of something, and seems to suggest Japan should run a big deficit (as well as America). It’s frustrating because the political class seems to thrive on people who say things like this. It’s constantly trendy and intellectual. To not get it is to be a curmudgeon.

Do you have any specific suggestions for things you’d like to see? Are there signs of hope anywhere among the political class or outside of it (in Japan)?

I like your suggestion for the headline (Bumbling Fools Reveal Idiotic Policies) better and have to say that I agree with the comment regarding the arrogance of the political and media elites aka talking heads, smartest people in the room or what have you who think that everyone, other than themselves of course, is a complete moron.

Anyway, I just wanted to say I love your site and keep writing!

My advise: put Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama in a mental institution before he drives anymore people insane.

Got something to say?
